How to save recovered VMDK files to a Cloud disk

Begin by launching VMFS Recovery and locating the required data. Select it and click the “Recover” button to start Save Wizard. Instead of saving recovered data to the folder, select the “Mount as Disk” option. The virtual disk with recovered data will be mounted in Windows and allow you to upload it by Explorer or another file manager to the cloud directly without saving data on the local disk. Let’s check this process in detail. Follow these steps:

  • 1. In the VMFS Recovery interface, open the folder with the required *.VMDK files.

  • 2. Select the files or folders you want to export. To select multiple items, hold down the CTRL or SHIFT key while clicking on each file or folder.

  • 3. Once your desired data is selected, right-click on it, and choose the "Recover" button from the main menu.

  • 4. When prompted to select an unused drive letter for the virtual disk, make sure to choose one that is not currently in use by any other drive on your system. Note down the drive letter you select; you'll need it later.

  • 5. Select the “Mount to System” option.

  • 6. Select the unused letter for the virtual disk and click the "Mount" button.

  • 7. Open Windows Explorer (File Explorer) or another file manager you prefer to use.

  • 8. Navigate to "This PC" or "My Computer," where you should see the newly mounted virtual drive listed with the drive letter you assigned.

  • 9. Double-click on the virtual drive to access your recovered data.

  • 10. The virtual disk has a file called “Storage” and a folder called “File System”. Saving the “Storage” file will save a disk image from the mounted recovered data. The “File system” folder will contain all the files and folders that were selected to export.

Congratulations! You have successfully mounted your recovered data as a virtual disk in Windows. You can now browse, open, and copy the files and folders from the virtual disk.

Note: You can not edit, delete, or rename recovered files and folders. You need to save them to a safe place first.

  • 11. Open a cloud disk you would like to use. Use Drag&Drop or Copy/Paste to move recovered data onto the cloud disk.
