VMFS Recovery license selection guide
License selection based on three factors:
- Broken RAID disks
- RAID 6 and 60 support
- Deduplication support
Broken RAID disks
If you need to recover data from a RAID disk that is not broken, it is considered as a single disk recovery and the Standard license will suit this case.
If VMFS Recovery has reconstructed the RAID disk from the array members that are connected as individual drives, this is considered as a RAID reconstruction case. The Standard license will recover RAID disks that consist of up to 6 drives. The Pro license reconstructs arrays with up to 10 members. The Ultimate license has no limitation on the disk number in the array.
Note: that an original number of RAID members is taken into account. If you need to reconstruct 7 disks RAID 5 with 1 disk lost, you still need a Pro license, Standard will not process such a case.
RAID 6 or 60 support
The RAID 6 support is not included in the Standard license.
If you need to reconstruct RAID 6 arrays, you need either Pro or the Unlimited license.
Note: if RAID 6 hasn’t been reconstructed by VMFS Recovery, as described above, it is considered as a single drive and the Standard license will suit this case just fine.
Deduplication support
VMFS Recovery can recover data from compressed volumes. The compression technology is called data deduplication. VMFS Recovery can recover data from NTFS, ReFS, and VMFS deduplicated partitions. Deduplication support isn’t included in the Standard license. You need a Pro or Ultimate license for cases with deduplication.
